New Membership Information

The Turkeyfoot Island Club is a unique social club with a season starting in May and ending with the New Year’s Eve Party. The club has a long history in the area going back 135 years with the purchase of the island by Frank Lahm. Membership is now opened to non-island residents on a referral basis.

Membership affords many opportunities starting with the unique setting on beautiful Turkeyfoot Lake. The experience of watching the sunset over the lake during the cocktail hour before our weekly dinners, sitting and talking to friends is something special. Members also have use of the Yacht Club docks to come to dinner by boat if they desire. There is also a tennis court for members use. There are five very nice sleeping rooms at the club for use by members and their guests at reasonable rates. Another benefit of membership is the ability to rent the club at reduced rates for private functions such as; anniversaries, birthdays, wedding receptions or private parties. Many school and family reunions have been held at the club. It is also a great place to watch the annual Portage Lakes Fireworks show from a comfortable chair on the club patio.

Many folks over the years have referred to the club as a “yacht club”. While we have a yachting organization at the club whose members also belong to the social club, we are mainly a social organization that happens to have some sailors as members.

Our main social events include the Wednesday night dinners starting with cocktails on the patio at 6:15PM and followed by dinner at 7:15PM. The club does not have a liquor license, so members bring their own refreshments to the dinners and parties. The club provides the bar set-ups. The social schedule starts each year with the Kentucky Derby Party on the first Saturday in May and ending with the New Year’s Eve party. Wednesday dinners start in May and run until the end of October, a complete dinner is served for the nominal rate of just $35.  Many of the dinners are “themed” and include entertainment or activities. Of course, as a member, you are welcome to bring your guests to all the club functions. A social calendar for this year is included with this letter.

After the Kentucky Derby function, we have three Saturday night parties scheduled through the end of the season with the last party on New Year’s Eve. These parties have a theme such as; boating poker run, antique car rally, Hawaiian Luau, progressive dinner to homes on the lakes, Oktoberfest and so on. We also try to work in some themed Sunday brunches from time to time if our schedule permits.

We hope this answers some of your initial questions about the club. We would enjoy showing the club to you at your convenience. The best way to enjoy the club is to come to one of our Wednesday night dinners. We can make all the arrangements for you if you would simply call our club manager, Joann Nonno at 330-644-7797. Simply leave a message and she will return your call. For information, other than reservations, e-mail Joann at turkeyfootislandclub@yahoo.com.

On behalf of the membership committee, we would sincerely enjoy the opportunity to talk to you about the club, without any pressure to join. It is an opportunity granted only to a select few each year. Please call the club at 330-644-7797 and leave a message for the membership committee. One of us will return your call promptly. Another way to become acquainted with the club is to visit our web site; www.turkeyfootislandclub.com.
